Phase 2 of the external refurbishment and redecoration works to this period architectural style property located in West Hampstead are progressing well.
The existing asphalt from the dome is currently being refurbished. This phase has been challenging as the structure of the dome is open into a resident’s flat. A temporary ceiling has been installed whilst the works take place.
We have stripped off the asphalt and begun the process of adding new batten to replace all rotten sections. Following this we will install plywood and lead.
This will then mirror the previous works undertaken in phase 1 in 2023.
Once the scaffold was erected at Kings Gardens it became evident that one of the chimneys was out of vertical alignment, this has caused it to lean inwards towards the roof. The stack is stable in itself and we have carried out brick repairs as part of our masonry schedule. It was recommended by a structural engineer for us to install steel strut supports in order for it to remain stable for the foreseeable future. We have also had to install lead details around the supporting straps in order to ensure that the roof is watertight.
Look out for updates as our works progress here.
