This building has suffered with Pigeon’s nesting in the parapet gutters for many years and despite some proofing in place, it has been an ongoing issue for this block.
As part of our works we have engaged in a ‘Bird of prey programme’ that involves a number of visits each week from the Bird Handler and Bird of Prey for the duration of the contract.
Hawking is an entirely natural solution to deter pest birds, using specially trained birds of prey to deter gulls, pigeons and other pest birds without harming them.
The bird handler is using their experience and expertise to identify the most appropriate vantage points from which to fly the Hawk, to achieve the best results. As the Birds of Prey fly over the affected area, this will cause the nuisance birds to be disturbed and fly away, as they will assume the Hawk is threatening the colony – by repeating this process they shall eventually move on from this area and seek a new home.
As the scaffold is dismantled, we shall re-introduce wires/netting and spikes as required to eliminate this issue in the future.
We look forward to sharing more updates from site as works continue.
